Meet the artist
Born in Kalamzaoo, Michigan, Illustrator & Graphic Designer Eryc Why operates under the banner of Firebreathing Studios, founded in 2001.
Eryc lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands and studied at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University.
He started his career by designing flyers as a teen for local punk rock shows where his sense of service through creativity was sparked. Through working with other artists in expressing their creativity he found great personal and professional fulfillment.
Eryc is a contributor to 6th Wave of annual the Liger t-shirt design series. His work appears in a myriad of publications including Soy, Not Oi! Volumes 1 and 2, where he was in charge of art direction, illustration & design. He was a contributor to The Overrated Book and The Bobby Joe Ebola Songbook and provided spot and cover Illustrations for Chunklet Magazine and Time Out Amsterdam Magazine.
Some of his creative branding projects include Independent Outlet, Built to Destroy Skateboards, Point Blank Clothing and Accessories, Eat at Jo’s Café, Fuel veggie diner and Comedy Café Amsterdam.
Eryc Why designed Gold and Platinum album awards presented to: Grammy award winning artist Adele, The White Stripes and Basement Jaxx.
He also designed concert posters for several musical acts along with posters for different comedians such as Patton Oswalt and Zach Galifianakis.
Eryc has also found success as a touring and recording musician and additionally has worked in commercial, film and animation as a voice over artist and actor.
